Miguel Aragon’s Luchador:
One color relief print
11 x 15 inches
Santo el Enmascarado de Plata, a beloved folk hero, symbolizes justice for the common man through his legendary presence in luchador films and comic books. In this depiction, he is branded with designs of the capital sins, inspired by the works of José Guadalupe Posada, a Mexican political illustrator and printmaker. These tattoos represent El Santo’s power to control and conquer evil, reinforcing his role as a defender of righteousness.
Miguel A. Aragón was born in Juárez, México. He lives and works in New York City and Berlin and is an Associate Professor in Printmaking and Chairperson of the Department of Performing & Creative Arts, College of Staten Island, The City University of New York. He seems to be exhibiting and doing residencies all the time in fabulous places and is very hard to keep track of (Editor’s note).
