Umbrellas

Of course I know who Mary Poppins is, I saw that movie when I was a kid. It captivated me, thinking that she was so confident and self-assured. Mary Poppins went wherever and whenever she wanted with that umbrella of hers; she knew exactly who she was.

Fifty years later, umbrellas surfaced from my subconscious, insistent on being painted. I let them have their way

Umbrellas provide shelter from inclement weather, but they are so much more than that.
Umbrellas are imagination, and freedom. They are agency and self-determination. Umbrellas are a mode of transport, ready to take you anywhere. You can hang on to the handle kicking at the clouds, or ride sitting in comfort as you skim the terrain.
Collectively known as a spawn of umbrellas, daring to catch the wind and multiply. In phalanx formation there is protection
Umbrellas as a metaphor offer a way to connect and unify us.

And when we are all free to be who we are, we will soar.
