For over 30 years, I have been devoted to making artwork. For the past 13 years, I have been a full time fine art painter. My work has been published in The New Yorker, Art in America, Juxtapoz, New American Paintings, and American Art Collector magazines. I’ve exhibited my paintings at The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, and at Sotheby’s locations in Chicago, Vienna, and Tel Aviv. I’ve done solo shows at galleries in New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago, Aspen, Philadelphia, and Seattle. My work can be found in many private collections worldwide.
At heart, I’m a storyteller. My references range from the beauty and mystique of Hollywood’s golden age, to early twentieth century circus and carnival performers, to the dramatic and rich still lifes of the Dutch Masters. Symbolic scenes are flooded with lush colors and subtle details, at times veiling the darker underpinnings of my tales. I am strongly influenced by color, fire and smoke, as well as by nature; Especially the sky and its many expressive moods, the mystery of forests, the alien world of insects, and the beauty and weirdness of animals and birds. I treasure objects that have lived a life long ago, and my work reflects that. I love carnival lights, silent films, fashion and glamour, cabarets, dance halls, and the clubs that existed between the war years in Berlin. These things always ignite my imagination.
Over the years, there have been many artists that have fueled my inspiration and respect, including Otto Dix, John Singer Sargent, Abraham Mignon, Jan Davidsz. de Heem, Tamara De Lempicka, Albert Arthur Allen, Alfred Cheney Johnston, Edward J. Kelty, Alfons Mucha, Caravaggio, J.C. Leyendecker, Gil Elvgren and Christian Schad, to name just a few.
I currently reside in Chicago, with my beautiful wife Jessica Joslin, the acclaimed and celebrated sculptor.
