Study for an upcoming project.

Some flash of a moment; I’m not sure if in time with dirt beneath our tires or in reorchestrated memory.
Nevada.

Morning call. 30 x 24”. Study.

I wake up most mornings for a sunrise dip in Lake Ontario with an extraordinary group of humans. It’s a ritual, a prayer, a place, a surrender that shows me something new every day.

‘Saint Bartlett on Inner Dialogue’,
72 x 62”.
This piece has been through some floor wrangling to wall stapling to drips and stains to knives of impasto and loaded brushes. It’s based on a walk in my beloved Newfoundland, where the songs of @maraqoparecords album ‘Saint Bartlett’ whispered in my ear. It struck me it wasn’t just the audio, but the visual that I was present also. A familiarity in the wind. This piece will be in my upcoming solo show @james.baird.gallery @pouchcove_org in July.

Mystic Outwish

Night vision love story. A study to add to the collection.

“It is in the wild places
Where the edge of the earth
Meets the corners of the sky,
The human spirit is fed.”

Julie Himel

Julie Himel’s vivid paintings push the genre of  landscape into dreamlike abstractions. Exploring ideas of space and encounter, the work presents opportunities to step into portraits of natural spaces. Himel uses bold, active brushstrokes and generous application of brightly saturated paint in layers to create richly textural surfaces.

Himel received a Diploma of Fine Art from Langara College, Vancouver, BC, a BFA Honours Degree from York University, Toronto, ON, and a Graduate Diploma from the Toronto School of Art. Her work is part of private collections across the world and public collections including The University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, Westfield State University, Westfield, MA, the Armenian Centre Art Collection Canada, and several corporate collections.

She is represented by commercial art galleries in Canada and the United States.
